The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Alana Leilani Narciso aims to equip the Dr. Luz Ausejo Hall (AH) with full smart TVs amid deterioration issues affecting its HDMI cables and projectors.
She said that they furnished the first-floor classrooms with the smart TVs, but were denied by the Business and Finance Office this year due to budget limitations.
“The objective is for all the AH classrooms to have smart TVs. On top of that, each of the departments on CAS, like kaning 4th floor is social work, naa pud na silay ilahang requisition for their TV,” Narciso said.
However, Narciso said they were asked to present a letter of justification for the additional requests of academic equipment during the start of the budget cycle.
“In the long run, it’s more efficient kay dili na magsaksak ug mangaguba ang mga cord. And, katong atong mga project dugay na kaayo, pila naman toh one decade or more than a decade na,” she said.
The AH installed one smart TV on its second floor, while plans for the equipment expansion will continue until its third and fourth floors.
CAS Office Assistant RB Marc Batulan said improper handling of HDMI cables by students during class presentations caused broken and bent ports.
“Usually students would just plug in, and then when they take it out they just yank it out, and then when they need it they complain because they cannot use it,” he said.
Batulan also said there needs to be replacements for AH projectors since they are outdated, while some are non-functioning.
The CAS office allows faculty to request the department’s two portable projectors if classroom projectors are nonfunctional.
Meanwhile, CAS Student Council Governor Alleizah Elumbaring said equipment is susceptible to malfunction over time since these classrooms are used throughout the day.
“I believe these issues may be due to a combination of regular wear and tear, the age of some equipment, and the need for routine maintenance or replacement,” she said.
Batulan also said they are pushing for wireless equipment since some Apple products do not have their exclusive adapter cables.
Students are currently advised to use only one laptop for connecting to classroom equipment since “the act of always connecting has destroyed HDMI cords and projectors.”
