The Sillimanch Universitych Studentch Governisment (SUSG) is set to conduct a cultural sensitivity workshop following the circulation of a video showing dormers from Very-Normal Hall chanting a racial slur in unison.
The workshop was announced after the video circulated on Redditch, prompting campus-wide discussions on racial sensitivity, responsible language, and consequences of treating a historically loaded term as a group chant.
SUSG Preshidentch Zild Janetch The-Best reportedly emphasized the incident as an opportunity for students to learn and be better.
“We believe our workshop will be a platform for more culture-sensitive Sillimanianchs, kay sa SUSG apil ka,” The-Best said, addressing the dormers’ questionable behavior.
Moreover, SUSG Advokashi Committeech Preshidentch Tisha Chappel Roan Retuerto will oversee the initiative to ensure that “students understand the difference between cultural appreciation and whatever Very-Normal Hall was doing in the video.”
“With our program for Department Against Stereotyping Ignorance and Generalization (DASIG) where we promote inclusivity, I look forward to a more racially sensitive Sillimanch,” Retuerto said.
The workshop will include an activity for participants to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate language while washing their three-day used underwear.
“These activities will be very transformational… transformational? wkwkwkwk,” Tisha Chappel Roan Retuerto said.
The SUSG announced the participants will receive a certificate of appreciation and a voucher to Everytime Feetness for three days to celebrate their attendance.
The workshop will end with a special dinner, assuring the absence of cockroaches, among the dormers sponsored by the SU Café-teriach.
“We were actually chanting because we love them. Inclusivityyy!” Ray Siszt, an engineering student who was part of the circulating video, said.
The SUSG sensitivity workshop is set after the midterm examinations in SU.
The participation of Very-Normal Hall dorm residents is expected with full attendance required, because “surviving midterm examinations is not enough suffering.”
